The BBC peeps are hard at work again. This time its Frozen planet which, by the time its all done, will have been four years in the making. Unfortunately we still have another year to wait before it’s ready but those of you in the UK, or who can work some cheeky GeoIP magic, can check out the preview to wet your appetite.
Yesterday evening I headed over to Union Chapel in Islington to check out the Banff Mountain Film Festival. Having already gotten a taster from the trailer a week or so back, my expectations were set for great things and the evening totally surpassed them all.
The best of the best make up the short film world tour - incredible, inspiring stories and guaranteed to stir up a number of emotions. The whole programme was full of thought provoking, exhilarating and at many points totally shocking footage as to what some people will do to get high plus the sound tracks and cinematography were truly beautiful.
The UK leg of the tour is in full swing. Another session in London tonight before they head North. Totally recommend. Go see it.
Among the many awesome presents Santa brought me this year is my new harmonica.
Listening to my mum’s favourite, Donavon, plus Dylan and in the past few years Donavon Frankenreiter, I’ve dreamt of being able to huddle around the camp fire or sit out on the deck playing some classics and chilling out just like all the guys I’ve come across, over the years, strumming their guitars.
So far, not so good. I’ve managed to kill Three Blind Mice a few times and my neighbours can confirm that it’s been pretty slow going (in the same way as all the other musical instruments which have gone before it).
Matter not, I persevere.
Every so often I get one of those ‘Damn, why didn’t I turn my five minute idea into reality’ type moments and having seen a good example of that very same thing, I’m sitting here doing exactly that right now.
Tourdust is an idea a couple had whilst no-doubt having the time of their lives in some far-away country, thinking up how they could spend their 9 til 5 working for themselves rather than for some big corporate someplace.
Using the whole ‘community thang’ in addition to local tourist businesses promoting themselves, they say you can find the little gems that really make a holiday and never have to stay in a bland hotel or travel with the hordes wishing you had insider knowledge again.
Taking a look through some of the suggestions, I reckon there are a fair few in there for me already :)
